Nine Days With No Phone in Bora BoraJul 24, 2023
Average Americans touch their phone 2,617 times.
That just sounds exhausting, doesn't it?
We are told we have to be ‘connected.’ And if we aren’t, we’ll be out of touch and even shamed for not knowing what is going on in the world.
“You don't know the latest from Uzbekistan and the oil crisis?”
“What do you mean you didn’t know _______ got canceled.”
Yeah, daily occurrences.
So, how do you overcome this constant onslaught of ‘on’???
Take a break.
My wife and I just went to Bora Bora (magical paradise getaway spot).
But even more than the beauty of the crystal clean lagoon water or the lush green palm trees ascending a towering volcano, was the peace and quiet. Not just of the island itself, but of the NO PHONE BREAK we took.
My fears going in? Will I still be relevant when the 9 days are up? What if one of my clients needs me? What if I miss an opportunity for a speaking engagement? What if my podcast numbers drop?
What if, what if, what if….
But here is the reality – no one really cares about you as much as you think they do, unless they are the one in Bora Bora with you!
What I mean by that is the people who mean the most to you deserve the time with you. The undistracted, undiluted, uninterrupted time with you.
Trust me, its worth it. And it feels sooooooo good.
I almost don't even want to write this I want to still be disconnected. Just kidding.
But the recharge you will feel, oh it’s so worth it!
Here is the challenge – and you can start small –
Pick a 3 day weekend for you and your spouse (and kids if you have them) that you will have a ‘NO PHONE BREAK’
Either take a family vacation or go camping in the yard. Whatever it is you choose, choose to turn your phone off and be fully present together.
If it doesn’t work and you don't like the feeling of being closer with the ones who mean the most to you, please let me know ; )
