Together Taste SO GOOD!!
Have you ever eaten a Rueben Sandwich?
Amazing right? I’m envisioning myself right now taking a massive bite out of a succulent Rueben from Katz Deli in New York City. Corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and Russian dressing, grilled between slices of rye bread.
If you ate one of those ingredients you would want to puke. At least I would! Corned beef, gross. Swiss cheese, yeah that smells horrible. Sauerkraut, no chance! And what is Russian dressing? Rye bread, yeah not my cup of tea to eat plain.
But yet, somehow when put together they create a beautiful euphoric experience for our taste buds. I don’t know how the combination of misfits can create magic, but it does.
Misfits, such an interesting word.

Basically the people who society casts out, says aren’t good enough to make an impact on the world. They can’t be heroes, they are misfits.
It always hits me hard when I think of the greatest crew of misfits of all time. (No not the Avengers or the X-men) The 12 disciples of Jesus. And I’m not even trying to get religious or talk about faith in this chapter, but hey when the 12 of the most influential people to ever walk the planet come together as a group of extreme (heavy emphasis on extreme) misfits you have to turn an ear and listen.
Fisherman
Tax collectors
Zealots
Thieves
Not exactly the type of people you would picture being chosen to spread the word of God throughout the world. But like a Rueben sandwich, the right ingredients together made up the perfect tasting combination.
The disciples were cast offs, society either scorned them or wrote them off. Matthew, an awkward tax collector whom his own people despised wrote one of the most important books in all of the Bible.
Peter, a simple fisherman with no standing in society, becomes the rock on which the church is built and the leader of the apostles.
The 12 apostles and a reuben sandwich, you probably never thought you would say those two words in the same sentence. Maybe Jesus actually turned the fish and loaf of bread into 5,000 rueben fish sandwiches.
All joking aside, it doesn’t matter where you come from, it doesn’t matter what your background is, you are called for greatness. There is never going to be a perfect time to start going after your goals. There is never going to be a silver platter laid out in front of you as the direct path you should take to get there. There is never going to be everyone in your corner telling you that you can do it. It’s going to be hard, it's going to be ugly, you won’t be able to do it on your own. But that’s ok! You can do it and you WILL do it if you make the decision you can become great.
The equipped aren’t the ones that are called. The ones that are called are equipped. We all are called.
