The ONE Skill That Determines Success
Drive.
That's the answer. Plain and simple, the answer is drive. The questions I would ask you are: Do you see freedom as doing whatever you want at whatever time you want? Or do you view freedom as DISCIPLINE? Discipline is not a bad thing, it is what gives us the control to be able to do what we want to do, to live out our dreams!
I heard Elon Musk say this actually: 'people will frantically panic looking for a plug in if their phone is about to lose charge, but they will let their dreams slip away without an ounce of panic.
Why?
Only you can answer that question. And the answer to it is DRIVE. You either have it or you don't.
I used to work with a lot of young college players entering the NBA Draft. Within the first five minutes of meeting the player I could tell you if they were going to have a successful career or not. It's what I call the 'do they drag me to the gym' mentality or 'do I drag them?' Only one way works, the first option.
Shai Gilgeous Alexander. Relatively unknown when he came out of Kentucky University and entered the NBA Draft. Another good player in the league, but would he ever be great? That was the question. I knew the answer from the first day I met him. Shai walked into the Santa Monica gym on Spring morning and worked harder than I had ever seen anyone work on their first day. He was drenched in sweat by the end of the workout. That was impressive in itself, but what blew my mind is what came next. After two hours going all out on the court, Shai looked over at me and said 'what time are we going tonight coach?'
That's when I knew he wasn't just going to be good, Shai was destined for greatness!!
3 years into his NBA career, Shai Gilgeous Alexander is one of the top Point Guards in the entire league and one of the young superstars who will be the face of the NBA for many years to come!
