‘The Grass Can be Always Greener, but the
Roots Must First Grow Deeper’
Imagine you are on the most breathtaking beach on a desolate untouched island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. You have everything you could ever want. Not just the beauty of the waves crashing smoothly into the sand, the perfect amount of warm sunlight illuminating your entire body, the freshest fruit and a plethora of food at your convenience, comfort of a beach house that opens its entire living room up to a ocean view. Your extended family is even able to fly in, your friends come in on your private jet, everything you have dreamed of and exponentially more, you have.
But yet you feel like you want more. Just if you were at the bigger island a few miles away. You can see it from the distance and the greenery looks even more luscious, the mountains even taller, the picturesque beauty even more vibrant and powerful than the island you are on. If only. The grass is greener over there, you just know it.
Seems a little extreme, right?
Maybe, but it happens to all of us. We all feel the pull of ‘when I get here, or when I move there, or when I have that,’ life will be better and we will be happier.
And I’m here to tell you that's ok!! It’s ok to think the grass is always greener, but only if you understand that where you are right now is where the roots grow deeper.
One without the other doesn’t work. And it will ONLY work if you focus on the roots first. You are where you are for a reason and a purpose right this very minute as you read this email. You might have thought ‘just another Wednesday.’ But it’s not. It’s a turning point in your life, this very moment. You can make the decision to fully embrace where you are at right here, right now, with a vision of a greener future! It’s process leads to results. You don’t get to the results without focusing on the process. Just like you don’t get to the more desirable island without focusing on the roots first.
I’ll leave you with this: I always dreamed of living on the beach in Los Angeles when I was growing up in Iowa. And if I would have only thought, ‘I can only be happy when I get there’ I would have never made it to where I am today living on the beach in Los Angeles.
The grass can be greener, but only if you focus on growing the roots deeper!
Write out EXACTLY what your dream home, dream job, dream location of living looks like. Be SUPER specific and don't hold back! Now also right down what is one thing you can do today in the exact spot you are in currently that can grow your roots deeper! What is one thing that you have been just 'going through the motions' on that can actually make you stronger in the long run?
Write both down and look at this every morning before you start your day!
